DRIFTING IS SLOW, but here's why... Drifting essentially means you are having to counter-steer away from the corner, so lots of your energy is lost to friction instead of driving the kart forwards. The ideal way to drive (in indoor karts or cars) is with a concept known as neutral steer where the steering wheel is dead straight through the corner. It looks like you're drifting, but you aren't losing nearly as much lap time to friction loss. But how do you turn without steering you may ask? With the pedals... By dancing with the throttle and brake, a skilled driver can maintain their karts rotation almost entirely with their feet assuming the tire compound allows it.
